About a decade ago fruit trees were planted along the Legacy Trail near the Northside YMCA with the idea of creating an edible trail for active people but, sadly, they haven't had the loving care they need.
This spring a few club volunteers worked with the city arborist to give the trees some much-needed pruning. Now, as part of Tree Week, the club is working with the city to spread mulch around the bases of the trees to help them flourish and protect them from mowers! The date and time are Monday Oct. 11 at 10:30 a.m. We could use about a dozen people to make this easy work for all, so please register so we can keep track of who is coming
Probably later in the fall we will again assemble a group that, under the supervision of city professionals, will assist in a more thorough pruning and, hopefully, replanting where some trees have been lost.
This seems like a good civic give-back for our club which starts so many rides from the Northside Y. Plus, we'll get to eat beautiful fruit next spring and summer! Any questions, lease contact Jacalyn Cafagno at 859-327-5138 ,or via email at jacalyncarfagno@gmail.com
